Having shoveled snow like crazy, I was sweating heavily and not least insanely frustrated. Shovelling snow is not exactly my favorite activity .. and definatley not when my car is stuck and I’m not getting anywhere. I have to admit that having a cool swim was exactly what I needed.
I got the car out eventually, but it was just moments before I had to ask my dear sister (who was going to visit from Jæren with two of her four girls) to take a taxi to our house. Instead it happened that I nicely and breathlessly asked, after I had picked them up at the train station, if we could stop at Hvalstrand for a little dip. She snapped some pictures, and I think they were pretty nice – finally some real winter bathing pictures!
For me, ice-bathing is pure therapy, one can discuss the purely health-related aspect as much as you can, but there is no doubt that it is effective on both the psyche and mood. I would never recommend that you ice-bath alone, and if you want to try it out it’s wise to start gradually, preferably not in the middle of winter but in late summer / fall or early spring. Take your time and listen to your body.
